This year, I’m ready to take golf more seriously. My main focus? Improving my game, lowering my handicap (currently at 44.8), and staying consistent with this blog by posting at least once a week. Writing here not only keeps me accountable but also helps me reflect on my progress. Here’s what I’ve set as my golf goals for 2025:
Play Golf More Often
My golf club, the Royal Malta Golf Club, is just a short 30-minute drive away, so I want to make the most of it. My goal is to dedicate more time to play, aiming for at least two 9-hole rounds each week. With work commitments, 18 holes can be a stretch, but shorter rounds should keep me improving.
I also want to step out of my comfort zone and take part in more competitions. Golf is a great way to meet new people, so I’m hoping to connect with more club members and enjoy the social side of the game.
Lower My Handicap
This is one of my biggest golf goals for 2025: bringing my handicap down to 30 by the end of the year. That means I need to improve by about one point per month, which feels realistic if I stay focused.
To get there, I need to work on three key areas:
• Driving accuracy: Less slices and hopefully fewer lost balls off the tee.
• Iron play: Improving consistency with my irons, focusing on solid contact and better distance control to hit more greens in regulation.
• Putting: Cutting out those frustrating 3+ putts that add unnecessary strokes.
Increase My Distances
Like many golfers, I dream of hitting the ball farther. By the end of the year, I’d love to consistently drive 220 yards (200 meters) and add 10 yards to each of my irons.
Right now, my driver averages about 180 yards, and my pitching wedge tops out at 100 yards. A big part of this goal is fixing my slice and learning a more efficient swing. Distance isn’t everything, but hitting longer and straighter would be a game-changer for me.
Consistency is what transforms average into excellence
Take Part in More Competitions
In 2024, I joined my first competition, and while it was nerve-wracking, it was also incredibly rewarding. For 2025, I’m aiming to participate in at least four competitions.
This is a big year for me, with a potential move to another country on the horizon, so I want to keep my competition schedule manageable.

Break 100
Right now, I’m far from breaking 100, but with the golf goals I’ve outlined in here, I’m hopeful that I can at least achieve it once in 2025. By improving my consistency, focus, and mental game, I believe this milestone is attainable, even if it’s a challenge. It’s not just about reaching that number—it’s about the progress I make toward getting there.
Make My First Birdie
After coming close last year, I’m determined to make my first birdie in 2025. To achieve this, I’ll focus on improving my putting, especially on those crucial mid-range putts.
Play on Two New Golf Courses
So far, I’ve only played in Malta. This year, one of my golf goals is to play on at least two new courses abroad.
Top of my list is Costa Navarino in Greece, which is about two hours from my holiday home. Spain and Italy are also tempting options. Experiencing new courses will be a great way to challenge myself and bring some variety to my game.

Stay Consistent with This Blog
I want FreshGolfers.com to be a space where I document my progress, share what I’m learning, and stay motivated. My plan is to post at least once a week—sharing updates, tips, and reflections on my golf journey.
This blog is like my golf diary, helping me stay accountable and push myself. Plus, I hope it’s something you, the reader, find interesting or helpful as you work on your own golf goals.
Golf is hard—that’s what makes it so rewarding. Lowering my handicap, increasing my distances, and staying consistent with this blog won’t be easy, but I’m ready for the challenge.
Here’s to a year of better swings, new experiences, and smashing my golf goals for 2025. Let’s make it happen!
